Short of that, all we have are estimates of varying degrees of specificity. The only way to really tell how many calories someone has burned is to have them wear a CO2 monitor on their face as they perform physical activity, because respiration of C02 is how your body eventually evacuates spent energy. You're right to be skeptical of any calorie burn estimate, and especially of one that purports to know how hard your metabolism worked by sitting on your wrist and measuring your movement with an accelerometer. I'm hoping after a couple of weeks I can get a feel for how far off it is and I should be able to adjust my plan to the new data. I don't know how I'm going to use the data I'm getting from it, there seems to be a lot of information that it spits out. Is there anyone on here who has been using a Fitbit for a while who has experience with the calorie counter/heartrate monitor? How close to reality is it? I'm perfectly ok with it being out by a percentage, as long as it's consistently out by the same. I should have been somewhere near 2500 yesterday according to what I've been using before this. I can't believe that I could have done that. My Fitbit says that I burnt 3150 cal though. I got in 15 min on the treadmill, but that's about it. I'm hoping the Fitbit numbers can help bring back some of my earlier fire and motivation.Īnyways, I had to take my mom to the hospital yesterday and because of that I pretty much did nothing but sit around and be stressed out. I upped my exercise for most of the time I've been losing, but the last two weeks, I've hit a bit of a motivational wall actually getting my gym and running time in. My changes have been mostly substituting greens for the starches in my diet and eating a lot less premade food. I've been focused on losing weight since September. I recently bought a Fitbit Inspire 2 when they were on sale a few weeks ago and just got it set up two days ago.
